We’re excited you’re interested in baptism!

Baptism is an important step of obedience for everyone who has accepted Jesus Christ as his or her Savior.

What is baptism?

Baptism is an outward expression of your inward decision to trust Christ as your Savior. We like to think of it as a way of telling the world you’re in. Simply put, going under the water symbolizes your death to your old self, and coming up again symbolizes you are a new creation.

At GCF Calgary, we baptize by immersion because that’s how the Bible describes baptism. Jesus Himself was baptized by immersion.

For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with Him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.
— 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT)

Who is baptism for?

Baptism is for Christians. If you’ve asked God to forgive you for your sins, believe that Jesus died and rose again in your place, and have put your trust in Him for our salvation, then you’re ready to be baptized.

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.
— Romans 10:9-10 (NLT)

Why should I be baptized?

Baptism is a non-negotiable next step of obedience for every Christ follower. The Bible teaches that Jesus Himself was baptized, and that He commanded His followers to teach and baptize others.

Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.
— Matthew 28:19-20 (NLT)

Take the next step of obedience today.
