Introduction

Are you grateful to God for His sustenance and provisions for you and your family as we start this year (2024)? Is the Lord faithful in providing all your needs? Can you remember a time in your life when you’ve complained to the Lord because it seemed that your resources were not enough to last for a week or a month? There are times in our Christian life that we tend to forget that the Lord is, had been and will be faithful to us, causing us to worry and complain to the Lord about our circumstance.

Our reflection today will help us witness God’s complete deliverance of the Israelites from the hands of Pharaoh in Egypt. The Lord gave the Israelites favor in the eyes of the Egyptians that they provided their needed resources in their journey from Egypt to the promised land.  Moreover, the Lord gave them shelter by means of the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night. We will also appreciate how the Lord showed the Israelites His sovereignty in all things.  However, God requires the Israelites to be obedient and resilient as they follow God in their journey to the promised land.

Outline:

  1. God is tirelessly protecting and giving us ways to endure in our life journey. (vv.19-21)

  2. God faithfully supplied sweet water to the Israelites even if they grumbled greatly against Moses and God. (vv.22-25a)

  3. God’s command to the Israelites to be submissive and resilient in following His statutes (vv.25b-27)

  4. God’s gift of oasis and rest to His children (v.27)

God’s Word to your Life:

  1. Our Christian journey is not lived in straight lines. God gives us detours along the way for Him to see how committed and submissive we are to His will in our lives.  May we be committed to be resilient in the detours and uncertainties in our lives.

  2. Ask the Lord for forgiveness if you are always complaining about His daily provisions in your life. Learn to be content and appreciative of God’s provision in your life.

  3. Put your trust and hope in the Lord when your security and circumstances are defenseless.  Surrender your fears and worries into God’s hands and trust His plans and sovereignty in your life.
